Don salvador

Salvador Benedicto is the mountainous area in Negros Occidental. It connects Bacolod City to San Carlos City. The 2 hour long drive is definitely breath-taking since it is known for as the “Little Baguio” of Negros. Pine trees stand tall and proud along the side of the road. If driving in private, you can stop over a lot of humble coffee stops that offers native coffee for as low as 10Php.  There are also restaurants from time to time and mountain resorts to visit.

My favorite thing to do in DSB aside from the chill drive, is trekking the Malatan-og Falls. It is very accessible. You can literally see the waterfalls from the high way. The trek would roughly take 30 minutes if you walk fast, but 1 hour for me since I like stopping by and taking pictures and also to catch my breath. There are houses along the mini-trek too, where they sell refreshments and coffee before you reach the falls. But I would prefer to just bring your own snacks, and eat it while enjoying the spray of cold water from Malatan-og.  Be cautious because it will be very slippery during rainy seasons, and don’t go near the current if you are alone. Just go with someone, so you can buddy up.  I would also prefer trekking just as the sun rises, because the shadows and the break of dawn light adds more drama, and if you are lucky like me, you might as well get a chance to touch a rainbow (and get disappointed that there’s no pot of gold at the end of it.)
